Burn Rate for Storage

Burn Rate is the rate at which a company or project spends its available budget, typically expressed monthly. In the security industry, understanding burn rate is crucial for managing operational costs, project longevity, and financial sustainability, especially in long-term surveillance or infrastructure deployments. A high burn rate may signal overspending or short project lifespan, while a controlled burn rate indicates financial health and planning.

This refers to the required storage for recorded information. The burn-rate is the maximum storage needed to record for one hour. Once you know this number you can size the system by simply multiplying the burn-rate by the number of hours the customer needs to keep the data. (GB/hr. = Avg. image size, x # of images/sec, x # of cameras, x 60 [sec] x 60 [minutes]).
